Fruitful Hills Farm Visit - Watering in a dry season

Community Supported Agriculture - We will cherish our visit with our Fruitful Hills farmers forever! How do they water everything?
Fruitful Hills - pack house/ice house, barn, cistern, hoop house, home
Our farmers do not use electricity, telephones, or motor vehicles. Our farmers also provide us with organic produce - no pesticides! We enjoyed seeing their ingenious solutions to organic farming. It has been such a dry season and water has been an issue. The cistern collects rain water and that water is used in the home. The cistern is uphill from the home. Gravity carries the water to the house, and water is heated on the wood burning stove.

Water for the crops comes from the pond.
Our farmers have a pond that is stocked with fish, used for swimming, ice is taken from the pond for the ice house, and the water is used to water all of the crops. Our farmers do use generators. The generator pumps water from the pond, and using a series of drip irrigation tubing, provides much need water to the crops.

Our farmers use plastic mulch to protect the plants from insects.
